The Parameter Graph

You can set values in a column using a graph, rather than typing the values into keyframes. To do so:

1. Select the column you wish to alter by clicking on its column name (see Using the XSheet panel).

2. Ensure the Key Properties window is displayed; if it isn't, choose Tools > Properties and click on the Key tab.

3. Display the Parameter Graph panel by clicking on the Parameter Graph button in the Properties panel:

To alter the values, you can:

• Drag the keyframe values vertically to change the values of the corresponding keyframes.

• Drag the tangents to change the way values change between the keyframes:

• A normal drag smoothes the tangents on either side of a keyframe. They are made to lie at 180 degrees to each other, and so create a smooth curve through their keyframe. As you move one tangent, so the other moves to keep them in a straight line.

• A Ctrl-drag breaks the tangents on either side of a keyframe, making them independent of each other. This can create sharp changes in values at a keyframe. As you drag one tangent, the other stays unaltered.

You can also alter how the parameter graph is displayed:

• Use the Marks, Text, Lines and Points checkboxes to control whether or not the corresponding elements of the panel are shown.

• Use the pop-up Samples menus to set how often these elements are shown; in the example above they are shown every frame.

• Use the XZoom and YZoom buttons and the scroll bars to change which part of the graph is visible.
